Creating and Removing Albums

Albums are your primary tool for organizing photos in EasyShare (Figure 5-8 ). You impose order on your photo library by creating albums for different subjects: Museum Sunday, Oregon Vacation, Nature Photos, and so on, much the same way you organize your photos into folders in Windows XP.

Albums have a distinct advantage over folders, though: They don't take up nearly as much room on your computer's hard drive. So go ahead and put a single photo into more than one album if you want. For example, you can put that Crater Lake shot in both your Oregon Vacation and Nature Photos albums and enjoy it twice as often. If you're not sure whether, at some point in the distant future, you'll hunt for a photo of your dog Lola on the beach in your Dogs album or your Beach album, put it in both places. (If you did the same thing in Windows by placing copies of the same photo in multiple folders, you'd fill up your entire hard drive fast.) You can store your photos in just a few well-organized folders in Windows, and then create a riot of EasyShare albums to show them off.

To create a new album, use Albums —+ New Album, or click the large New Album button below the program menu. A new album appears in the list below My Albums, and you can give it a name.

If you decide to remove an album, select it in either the main window or the album list and then use Albums —} Remove Album. A message box asks if you're sure you want to remove an album. It also explains that by removing the album, you don't delete photos from your computer. But if you want to delete an album in the name of cleaning up your EasyShare window, click Yes.

Figure 5-8. To view your EasyShare albums, click My Albums at the window's upper left. If you don't see your albums in the list, you may need to expand the list by clicking the little triangle to the left of My Albums. Albums sport a spiral binding on their left side so you can distinguish them from photo thumbnails. The bracketed number next to an album tells you how many photos or videos it holds. Double-click to open an album and see its photos at right.
